German Signals Command Post

The 65th Nachrichten Abteilung is based at Bletchley Park. It is a German WWII Signals Group, and is responsible for the Command Post display. Normally viewed as part of the Bletchley Park Story exhibition, a special request can be made to have an in-depth look at this typical German infantryman’s working and living area, showing how the command post sent locally enciphered Enigma messages to other units. The exhibition depicts a receiving and transmitting station with many items of original equipment including an Enigma machine. This exhibition is an integral part of understanding the story and unique history of the Enigma machine.

Items relating to an infantryman’s personal life are shown, such as his rations, shaving equipment, reading matter, money and family photos. A fascinating collection of uniforms and equipment, military decorations and weaponry can also be seen, along with Field Marshall Kesselring’s personal radio.

A special visit to this display can be used to reinforce class work on History, Design & Technology.
